Why ad blockers break on Twitch

Twitch stitches ads into the live video stream itself, so a classic blocker can't simply cut a request: it ends up with a purple screen or a frozen stream. Open-source tools have to change often, and one of the best known was archived in March 2026.

What this extension does differently

This extension doesn't fight the player: it keeps the stream going while the ad break plays in the background, so you keep watching the live stream.

The purple screen and the Turbo pop-up

The purple screen is not a normal commercial break. When Twitch rolled it out widely in February 2021, the notice said an ad blocker or script running in the browser was the likely cause, and appeared where ads should have played (Xataka, 25/02/2021).

In January 2025, users began reporting a second measure: windows every 30 to 60 minutes asking them either to turn off their blocker or to subscribe to Turbo, in two variants (AdGuard, 22/01/2025, updated 29/07/2026).

Free Twitch blockers in October 2026

TTV LOL PRO: last release v2.6.2 on 08/05/2026. Its README says it removes most livestream ads but not banner ads or VOD ads, recommends adding uBlock Origin, and asks you to remove any other Twitch-specific blocker.
TwitchAdSolutions (the “vaft” script): archived on 05/03/2026 by its author, who wrote that he was no longer interested in Twitch. Its README said proxies were the most reliable method and warned not to combine Twitch blockers.
TTV AB: release v25.0.4 on 26/10/2026, for live streams and VODs, Firefox 142+ and Chromium 111+, not iOS. It plays a backup stream during breaks to reduce black and purple screens.
Twitch's own advice: its help centre asks you to allowlist twitch.tv in your blocker to support streamers, and tells Turbo members who still see ads to disable blockers, citing a conflict.
