What Premium and Premium Lite leave behind

Even the full YouTube Premium plan does not clear every ad. Google's help page says sponsorships that creators build into their own videos stay, as do some Primetime and live content ads. Premium's real extras are elsewhere: YouTube Music Premium, downloads, background play, picture-in-picture and higher-bitrate audio.

Premium Lite, launched in the US on 05/03/2025 at $7.99 a month, removes ads on “most videos”. Google's Lite help page lists what it leaves out:

  • ads may still appear on music, on Shorts, and while you search or browse;
  • no YouTube Music Premium;
  • background play and downloads, added on 24/02/2026, exclude Shorts and music.

US prices after the April 2026 increase

According to Notebookcheck (10/04/2026, updated 05/10/2026), which relies on YouTube's US pages, the individual plan went from $13.99 to $15.99 a month, Family from $22.99 to $26.99, and Lite to $8.99; Student is $8.99. Existing subscribers were reportedly moved later than new ones; the exact date is not confirmed.

Google says Premium and Music together passed 125 million subscribers, trials included (06/03/2025). For a viewer who mostly watches on a laptop and never uses Music or downloads, that monthly bill is what a one-off €5 replaces.

Who gets paid when you skip

YouTube's partner help says creators receive 55% of the net ad revenue on long-form videos (45% from a shared pool on Shorts), and that part of each Premium fee is shared with the creators you watch. An announced change from 01/02/2027 sets the Premium pool at 30% of net subscription revenue and Lite at 60%.

If supporting a particular channel matters to you, memberships, merchandise or Premium do that directly; this extension does not pay creators.

Frequently asked questions

How do I watch YouTube without ads?

Install “Replay Block for YouTube” in Chrome or Edge on a computer and play a video on youtube.com. Video ads in the player are skipped, then your video carries on.

Is it the same as YouTube Premium?

No. Premium also gives background play on your phone, downloads and YouTube Music. This extension only skips video ads, on a computer, for €5 once.

Does YouTube Premium remove all ads?

No. Sponsorships that creators integrate into their videos remain, and Google says some Primetime and live content may still carry ads.

What do you lose with YouTube Premium Lite?

YouTube Music Premium, ad-free music and Shorts, and some features such as queueing and cross-device resume. Ads can also show while searching or browsing.

Does skipping ads hurt YouTubers?

Creators get 55% of net ad revenue on their long-form videos, so ads skipped mean less of that income. Premium shares part of its fee with creators; this extension does not.

Is the trial really free?

Yes. Your first ad break is skipped for free. If you want to keep going, you pay €5 once and get lifetime access, with no subscription. Otherwise, remove the extension in one click.

How much does the extension cost?

€5 once, lifetime access, no subscription. Payment goes through ExtensionPay and Stripe; you sign in with your email.

I use AdBlock or uBlock. What should I do?

Turn it off for youtube.com, so the two don't fight over the player. It stays on everywhere else.

Does it work on a TV, phone or console?

No. Only in Chrome or Edge on a computer (Mac, Windows, Linux, Chromebook).

Is the extension made by YouTube?

No. Replay Block is independent and not affiliated with YouTube or Google. YouTube is a trademark of its owner.

What data is collected?

No browsing data. If you buy, your email and payment go through ExtensionPay and Stripe.
